Description |
The next American Red Cross Blood Drive at the Millennium Science Complex on June 21 will be held in honor of our own Amanda Baker (research & development engineer at the Materials Research Institute), who is fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia. During her treatment so far, Amanda has received several blood transfusions and will need more before it is over. On another note, the American Red Cross is running a Summer Blood Challenge, which will run June 1 through July 31. Donate at our drive on June 21, or any campus during June and July, and you can help the OVPR/Institutes win the Challenge! Just sign in at the drive and credit your donation to the OVPR--and you'll be helping us win the trophy! Sponsored by MRI, SSRI, Huck, IEE, ICS, and the OVPR IMPORTANT NOTE: Though walk-in donations will be accepted, please make an appointment for your donation if at all possible--this will ensure that we are adequately staffed to accommodate everyone who wishes to donate, as the Red Cross staffs the drive based upon the number of appointments made in advance. Both whole blood and power red donations will be accepted. Donation is easy and takes no more than one hour of your time (about 1 Ā½ hrs. for power reds). To make an appointment: On-line: Go to http://www.redcrossblood.org and enter zip code 16802 in the 'Find a Blood Drive' field on the upper right. A list of blood drives in our area will come up; choose 'Millennium Science Complex' on June 21. Click to schedule an appointment on the left; you will need to create a username and password the first time. For subsequent donations, you will be able to log in to your own page and go from there. Click the time you want for your appointment, and you will receive a confirming email. You are going to save a life! Phone or e-mail: Contact the blood drive coordinator (Joanne Aller, 814-865-2896, jam28@psu.edu) to make the appointment for you. Try Rapid Pass to shorten your waiting time on the day of donation--just answer the questions on line prior to your donation time, print the pass at the end of the process or e-mail it to yourself and bring to the registration desk at the time of donation. Here's how:
NOTE: Rapid Pass must be done on the day of your donation (cannot be completed prior to that date to be valid). To donate blood you must be at least 16 years old, weigh 110 lbs. and be in good health. Eligibility questions? Go to http://www.redcrossblood.org/donating-blood/eligibility-requirements, or call 1-866-236-3276 |
