Penn State’s Social Science Research Institute invites tenure-line faculty at all Penn State campuses to apply for its 2024-25 Mentored Early Career Faculty Fellows Program.
The Faculty Fellows program supports tenure line faculty at the rank of assistant professor who are interested in expanding their research expertise in a new direction (eg. novel methods, techniques, application to a new target population) and/or the development of new interdisciplinary collaborations. The aim should be to build sustainable research and secure external funding. Eligibility requirements and the application process are explained on the SSRI Faculty Fellows page.
The Faculty Fellows program offers up to a two-course releases from teaching during a single academic year to support early career faculty to allow time for study and training with the guidance and support of a mentor or mentor team. The mentor/mentoring team will also receive up to $1,000 in the form of a summer supplement that will be divided by the members of the team.
Applications should first be submitted for approval to the applicant’s department head/program director. After approval, the department head should forward the application to the college dean or campus chancelor. A college dean or campus chancellor may submit up to two proposals each year to ssri-seed-grant@psu.edu.
The deadline for applications is Dec. 1. Successful applicants will be notified by Dec. 15.
Additionally, SSRI provides seed funding at several levels aimed at providing supporting the research of social and behavioral science faculty from all Penn State campuses to facilitate new and innovative research projects.
SSRI invites proposals for seeding funding aimed at providing research support to Penn State investigators from diverse fields within the social and behavioral sciences to facilitate new and innovative research projects with collaborations across disciplinary lines, across colleges and research centers, and the as well as the activities of multidisciplinary and translational University Research Institutes.
Priority will be given to proposals that are aligned with SSRI’s mission to foster novel, interdisciplinary research to address critical human and social problems at the local, national, and international levels and are likely to lead to future external funding.
