Description |
The United States is facing an epidemic: prescription opioids resulted in overdose deaths that were five times higher in 2016 than 1999. From 1999 to 2016, more than 200,000 people died in the U.S. from overdoses related to prescription opioids. As we respond to this crisis, we must intensify investments to address treatment and recovery, but we must also prioritize prevention. This briefing will highlight a report from Trust for America’s Health and Well Being Trust, Pain in the Nation: The Drug, Alcohol and Suicide Epidemics and the Need for a National Resilience Strategy, which found deaths from drugs, alcohol and suicide could account for 1.6 million fatalities over the coming decade and called for a national resilience strategy that takes a comprehensive approach focusing on prevention, early identification of issues and effective treatment. The briefing will also highlight evidence-based prevention programs and public health approaches to this epidemic. Please RSVP here. Featured Speakers:
