| Description |
How do we support families when incarceration threatens to derail their health, stability, and relationships? This session will explore incarceration as a critical social determinant of health and examine how it creates cascading risks for families— ranging from economic instability and social stigma to childhood trauma and disrupted relationships. Rather than focusing on deficits, Dr. Morgan will provide concrete tools for recognizing family strengths, reducing vulnerabilities, and helping families impacted by the criminal legal system build resilience in the face of extraordinary challenges. Participants will gain practical strategies for supporting families and incorporating trauma-informed, strength-based approaches into prevention and treatment programming. We hope you will join us for this powerful and evidence-informed presentation to strengthen families and reduce substance use risk. This event is hosted by the University of Maryland School of Public Health and Maryland ROPTA (Reinforcing Overdose Prevention Through Training & Advocacy), with funding from the Substance Use and Mental Health Services Adminstration, through Project REACH. |
