Danielle Symons Downs, professor of kinesiology and SSRI associate director, was recently inducted as fellow in the National Academy of Kinesiology (NAK). Symons Downs was among 12 distinguished scholars honored on September 13 during the Academy’s 94th Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh.
Downs was recognized for distinguished and sustained contributions to the field of kinesiology through scholarship and professional service.
NAK is an honorary organization whose Fellows comprise a “who’s who” of eminent scholars advancing the art and science of human movement and physical activity. The Academy’s dual purpose is to (1) encourage and promote the study and educational applications of kinesiology and (2) honor, by election to Fellow, those whose scholarly and professional contributions have moved the field forward.
“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Downs to the Academy,” said Dr. Monica A. F. Lounsbery, FNAK #551, President of the National Academy of Kinesiology. “Her leadership and scholarship exemplify the qualities we seek in Fellows—advancing knowledge, mentoring the next generation, and strengthening the future of kinesiology.”
