A Comparison of Two Cultural Consensus Theory Models - The General Condorcet Model and The Continuous Response Model

This talk explores the shared agreement of what makes people feel loved in different cultures using two different Cultural Consensus Theory models: the General Condorcet Model and the Continuous Response Model. These models enable the shared agreement to be gathered on topics without a known answer such as home remedies, grammatical correctness, and, more recently, love. These two models aim to determine the shared agreement, but they use two different response scales, binary responses and continuous responses, respectively. This talk explores an initial comparison of the models using data on what makes most people feel loved gathered in July of 2025 from individuals living in Spain, using both a “True” or “False” response scale as well as a 0 (unlikely) to 100 (likely). Preliminary results on what makes most Spanish people feel loved in everyday life will be presented along with a proposed Monte Carlo simulation study to systematically compare the models.
