Join us for an NIH Health and Extreme Weather Webinar February 17! Title: Impacts of Flooding on Opioid Use Disorder in Western Pennsylvania Description: With funding from the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, the University of Colorado Boulder Natural Hazards Center launched the Health and Extreme Weather Research Award Program, which is designed to address gaps in knowledge about the health risks and consequences associated with wildfires, hurricanes, droughts, floods, extreme heat, and other extreme weather events. This webinar will highlight one of the research projects funded through this program, focused on the “Impacts of Flooding on Opioid Use Disorder in Western Pennsylvania.” This study explores how and why people in recovery from opioid use disorder (OUD) can be uniquely impacted by flooding events. The researchers use a case study approach, studying the impacts of the flooding event on April 11-12, 2024 in Allegheny and Washington counties.
