Biography
Dr. Wilson J. Brown received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology, with trauma specialization, in August 2015 from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He completed an APA-accredited internship in traumatic stress at the Medical University of South Carolina and a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in clinical psychology at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Traumatic Stress at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio. At present, he is an assistant professor of child clinical psychology at Penn State Behrend. His dissertation investigated the relationship between the neural mechanisms of emotion regulation and treatment response in interpersonal trauma survivors with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
His current research interests include: 1) the interaction between affect, trauma exposure, and PTSD, 2) the utilization of translational research methodologies to understand emotion regulation in traumatized populations, 3) the improvement of evidence-based treatments for trauma and PTSD, and 4) the effective dissemination of trauma-informed practices and trauma-focused interventions.
His teaching interests include Introduction to Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Developmental Psychopathology, Crisis Intervention, and Trauma and Resiliency. Dr. Brown is also a Penn State alumnus, class of 2008.
