The Department of Sociology and Criminology is thrilled to announce the 20th Anniversary of the De Jong Lectureship Series on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. in Welch, Room 202 (or via Zoom). This milestone event will feature a compelling interdisciplinary dialogue on one of today’s most pressing social issues: “The Underpinnings and Limits of Pronatalism.”

Distinguished Speakers Include:

  1. Shelley Clark, Professor of Sociology at McGill University
  2. Samuel Perry, Professor of Sociology at The University of Oklahoma
  3. Nancy Luke, Research Scientist and former Professor of Sociology and Demography at Penn State

Together, these leading scholars will explore the cultural, political, and economic forces driving pronatalist ideologies, as well as their societal implications and limitations. This discussion promises critical insights for researchers and practitioners across sociology, demography, gender studies, public policy, health, and beyond.
