Penn State researchers Daryl Cameron, Daniel Max Crowley, Robert Roeser, and Mark Brennan recently participated in the Wilton Park Empathy Conference in West Sussex, UK.
The event explored how empathy can act as an antidote to the global rise of polarization and extremism, focusing on the role of non-formal education in helping young people develop compassion for others and become engaged global citizens.
“In a time when empathy is increasingly being challenged, it is important to bring people together and show the value of empathy and compassion in mutual inquiry toward a better world,” said Cameron of the conference.
Attendees included His Royal Highness, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, who chaired a panel on promoting empathy in adolescence.
The event was held in partnership with Penn State University, University of Galway, Warriors for Humanity Project, Foróige, and the The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation.
