Description

In this talk, I describe how I became an advocate for open, transparent, and reproducible practices in developmental science after spending the first half of my career a very long way from these ideas.  Along the way, I'll introduce the Databrary data library I co-founded and co-direct. Databrary is the world's only data library specialized for storing and sharing video, audio, and related identifiable data. Databrary hosts Play & Learning About a Year (PLAY) Project — a 6 TB dataset of home video recordings of infants and their mothers engaged in natural activities along with extensive survey-based demographics, health, and language data. I'll give a sneak peek at the PLAY dataset and invite collaborators to explore it with me while the data are under an embargo period. The talk will demo fun and practical uses of the Databrary API, the databraryr package I co-developed, and my favorite tool for reproducible scholarship: Quarto.
